About the water
Water ensures blood circulation in the body, regulates blood pressure, and allows the solution, absorption, and transport of nutrients. It affects the composition of blood, it functions as a thermometer to ensure a stable inner temperature, and it eliminates excess metabolic products. Water also makes joints flexible for the connection of bones and constitutes the flexible coat that protects our most important organs. About 180 liters of body moisture flows though the kidneys every day. Water makes up 78% of the brain, 86% of the heart, 84% of the liver, and 70% of the muscles.
A person drinks more than 1000 liters of liquid a year. Water absorbs into the bloodstream from the gastrointestinal tract, then it spreads throughout the body into various organs. It is stored in the tissues temporarily. There, it transmits the materials that are dissolved in it and it also takes up and carries metabolic products. Thus, detoxifying the body. Daily water uptake and water loss are always is in constant balance. As a result, the body's fluid quantity (about 500 ml) fluctuates in tight boundaries. The body constantly unloads about 2.5 liters of fluid, without any strain, during a day. The loss of fluid that is excreted by the body through urine (1300ml), stool (150ml), sweat (500ml), and breathing (450ml) has to be compensated.
Under normal circumstances, our body indicates the need for fluid with the sensation of thirst. But we shouldn't wait until the body signals that we are thirsty, we need to take in fluids regularly. Required amount of fluid gets into our system from drinks and nutrients. Seventy percent of our fluid intake is from water, soft drinks, fruit juices, tea, coffee, soups, milk, beer and other alcoholic drinks. Around twenty percent is from fruits and vegetables, while the last ten percent is from bread, meat, eggs, and legumes. All edibles contain water but in different amounts; humans can survive without food for weeks, but cannot go without water for more than a day and a half.
The body reacts to water deficiency in the following ways::
- 0.5-1% - sensation of thirst develops
- 3% - sense of thirst increases and saliva secretion decreases
- 5% - heart beat gets more active and sense of weakness develops
- 10% - disturbance in body function and mental activity
- 15-20% - death occurs
We are generally sensitive to the quality of the foods we consume, but a lot of us forget the most important component needed for a healthy diet: clean drinking water.
During his research, Pasteur found that 95% of illnesses is caused by water that we drink.
